Lebanese SMEs facing major challenges

SMEs constitute major importance in any economy since they are considered the backbone of the private sector. SMEs in Lebanon represent between 93 to 95% of enterprises in the country compared to 90% in the Middle East and North Africa Region. These firms employ about 50% of the population in Lebanon according to Economy Minister Raed Khoury, and they are defined as follows:

Micro Enterprise: Less than LBP 500 million Annual Turnover AND less than 10 employees.

Small Enterprise: Less than LBP 5 billion Annual Turnover AND less than 50 employees.

Medium Enterprise: Less than LBP 25 billion Annual Turnover AND less than 100 employees.

An SME is vulnerable to fall into traps that can threaten its existence and presence in the market. The Lebanese government realizes more and more the challenges SMEs are facing on many levels: Growth barriers, economic ambiguity, cash restrictions, changing business environments and access to market information. At SMEXCEL, we also beleive and realize that the biggest and most worrying challenge in the list remains the access to market information that can help SMEs grow to foreign markets and in particular to fast-growing economies and ones where Lebanon has an edge.

In this context, SMEXCEL SARL was launched in 2016 with the aim of providing customized and modern market research for SMEs covering a variety of sectors in Lebanon and the Middle East. Headquartered in Beirut with satellite offices in major Middle Eastern countries, we bring extensive experience and professionalism to every case and customize our support to individual needs and concerns.

To encourage SMEs to use our services, we tailored very reasonable prices compared to local market research firms soaring rates. We encourage the SME audience to get in touch with us and get a free consultation from our team of researchers that has been practicing for over a decade and was able to build a strong portfolio of clients.

Finally, we invite you to join us and meet our team at the Lebanese Startup Delegation to GITEX Future Stars 2018 which is taking place at the Dubai World Trade Center from 14 to 17 October. The delegation is sponsored by the Investment Development Authority of Lebanon and the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture of Beirut & Mount Lebanon.
